Making a Difference With Grants

The Phelps County Community Foundation's grants program provides a means by which not-for-profit charitable organizations may secure financial assistance for projects and programs which will enhance the quality of life for residents of Phelps County, Nebraska. Since 1976, the Foundation has awarded over $2.1 million dollars to support a variety of projects and programs within Phelps County.

The Foundation awards grants to the following areas of interest:

Education
Cultural
Human Services
Health and Recreation
Community

The Foundation DOES NOT provide grants to:

Individuals
Support operational expenses of well-established organizations
Support annual fund drives
Support travel and related expenses for individuals or groups such as bands, sports teams, or classes.

The Foundation's grants committee carefully evaluates grant applications and makes recommendations to the board of directors. The Foundation's board determines which applications will receive funding.

Grant applications are reviewed two times each year according to the following schedule:

If you are interested in applying for a grant from the Foundation, here are some key things to remember:

The Foundation has money to give only because people and organizations choose to give to the Foundation. Indeed, your support and interest in the Foundation and its work is appreciated.
Before doing anything, talk to the staff at the Phelps County Community Foundation about your project or plans.
If possible, attend a "Grants Informational Meeting" sponsored periodically by the Foundation. Contact our office to find out when the next meeting will be held.
Develop a comprehensive project plan, including project timelines, proposed project budget, campaign goals, etc.
Once the above steps have been completed, ask the Foundation about obtaining a grant application form.
